Teeth can be vulnerable to some drugs

* The tetracycline antibiotic can give permanent teeth a yellowish color.

* An excessive amount of fluoride can cause white spots on permanent teeth.

* Some acne treatment medications can contain the minocycline ingredient that can cause an area of black pigmentation on gums and a gray discoloration of teeth.

* Chemotherapy drugs can cause a dry mouth and lead to an increased risk of gum problems. While taking these medications, take extra care when brushing.

Don’t stop taking any prescribed medicine even if the medicine can potentially harm your teeth, but talk to your dentist about professional treatments that can help to protect your teeth and seek regular preventive dental care.
